Just taught me the difference between listening and hearing
Hello, I’m a recovery support worker for just – I’ve been working for this organization for 1 and a half years and I genuinely can say I love my job.
I know it's cliché but I became interested in being a support worker and helping others after my support worker inspired me. The passion and love that the support workers around me had was just incredible.
She was such a guiding light in my recovery. I’m now a support worker because it’s rewarding, fulfilling with a great sense of achievement.
The training plan was just what I needed – three days full of intense training by experts in the industry (including ex-service users) and two days in just – supported accommodations putting all the training to practice. This was a 13 week programme.
I feel every success story is amazing and listening to the aspirations of each service users just humbles me – the training I had at just helped me work and understand the service users that I was going to work with. Just taught me the difference between listening and hearing (which I think put in place with my key working service users)
The reality is that so many people need someone and although you don't have to have had some turmoil to do this job it helps if you say I've been in your shoes.
Everyone thinks they are alone and yes; their journey is unique to them, but they aren't alone if they let someone in.
I feel incredibly lucky to meet all my service users and to help them. The job is taxing and hard especially emotionally but when someone comes out of it as happy and fulfilled in their life as I am - it's a win.
Advice I would give – if you don’t want an office job, if you don’t want a 9 -5, if you want to up your skill set with regular training and if you want to make a difference come and join us at Just..
